Curricular Programming

Health and Physical Education

  • Students have opportunities to actively participate in a number of winter events including regular cross country skiing trips.
  • Blue River students and school community partner each year with the local Heli Skiing company to host the annual Andy Aufschnaiter Memorial cross country ski race. The community welcomes students from the elementary schools in Barrier, Vavenby, Clearwater and Valemont.
  • Each spring student's prepare for Track and Field events and join with student's at Vavenby and Clearwater schools to compete.

Learning Through Cooking

  • Students will continue to participate in a number of cooking opportunities where they learn about nutrition, and participate in making healthy foods that they enjoy eating. These opportunities provide cross curricular learning. Prior to winter break this year the teacher, students and parent volunteers prepare a turkey dinner for different invited community members to enjoy.

Community Garden

  • Each year the students at Blue River Elementary School participate in garden based learning. The students are proud to support their local community garden with the plants they  grow. This becomes a continued learning opportunity during harvest time the following year.

Music

  • We have guitars rented from the Henry Grube Education Center! We have them until around Mid-May so we will be covering some music curriculum directly, while also talking about Poetry, Math, the History of the songs and inspirations and impacts of the music.

Stream to Sea - Salmonid Enhancement Program Supported by Simpcw First Nation

  • Our fish are well on their way to full fishiness and have been eating up a storm! They’re just about ready for transplant into the wild. We will post more information on how that will look soon.
